We wanted to let you know what was going on with the merger talks with EBFC. I will start with some history.

-In early 2017 Jason Edwards, then President of EBFC, requested a meeting with BYFC to discuss the possibility of the two clubs merging into one. There was a meeting with both clubs Presidents and Vice- Presidents. It was determined that a merger wouldn’t happen before the 2017 season, but that the lines of communication would be kept open and merger talks would happen later in the year.

-Later in 2017 BYFC was contacted by Matt Brandenburg, current EBFC President, to meet and begin merger talks.

-On December 28, 2017 the Presidents and Vice Presidents of both clubs met to discuss merger terms brought by EBFC.

Unfortunately, the written terms presented (linked below) were one sided. The only concession being made by EBFC was a league change to the WOJFC. Everything else proposed was current EBFC with our BYFC board members added to their board, many of them in positions they didn’t currently hold. After an emergency board meeting and receiving input from various members, it was decided that a merge was not in the best interest of our club and its members.

In September of 2018 the EBFC board requested a meeting with the BYFC board. At the meeting the EBFC board expressed that it was eager to merge in order to bring the community together. They requested that the BYFC board submit a merger proposal to them. The BYFC board used the merge proposal submitted to us in 2017 by EBFC, the results of our member survey, the input of the Beavercreek City Schools, and input from other community members to draft a merger proposal. The proposal was sent to EBFC on December 11. The proposal was returned to BYFC with questions and statements on December 14 and posted online by EBFC.

On December 19 the BYFC board submitted answers to EBFC’s questions (linked below) and was told they would discuss our answers at their next board meeting in early January. The original proposal with EBFC’s questions and BYFC’s answers is linked below.

The biggest issue EBFC appears to have is with the “trial” period to see if the merge works. The 2017 EBFC merge proposal stated “A record of financial holdings as well as the assets of each club will be submitted and kept on record in the event the merge fails to protect each clubs interests. Once the clubs merge any monies and or assets obtained would be split equally.” We simply added more to their original plan.

When BYFC started in 2015 it had no money or property. According to their tax returns EBFC had $96,358 in the bank. At the end of 2017 they had $45,030 in the bank. To our knowledge the EBFC board has spent its members funding on: parties, buying 2 new sets of pants, all new cheer uniforms, and registering players for less than it costs to let them play.

Please take note that in the last 3 years, BYFC has paid off all its start-up debt, bought new helmets and shoulder pads, and built a savings of about $15,000 to use as season start-up money and purchase new equipment as needed.

The BYFC board feels that turning our money and property over to a board that has not shown itself to be fiscally responsible would be a disservice to the families and children that have worked to make BYFC the great club it is today. If EBFC is willing to meet in the middle to bring the Beavercreek football community together, we are all for a merger. We will not accept any merger that is simply us turning our assets over to them and them taking our league.

On January 8 BYFC received a response from EBFC. That response is linked below. Please review their response and give us your feedback by replying to this email by 1/15/19 (our next board meeting).

If any member ever has any questions for our board, please email us at [email protected] or email me directly at [email protected]. The BYFC board is here to work for our members and we need your input and help to grow. If any member would like to take a bigger role in our club, there are currently 4 open positions on our board.

Thank you,

David Cales

BYFC President
